Will the male osprey at Manton Bay begin his migration today?
His mate, Maya, started her long flight south yesterday morning at 10:15 from Manton Bay after the wind moved around from northerly to more southerly. Maya is the most successful breeding female on the reserve, having bred 45 chicks. She returned to Rutland on 24 March this year.
Male 33 often stays around a short time longer, but he has his own wintering home, separate to his mate. Wildlife watchers don't know for sure where they both go, but many are to be found in Senegal and other parts of West Africa.
